Asscher Cut Diamond Wedding Bands for Women
Square stones sit side by side the way tiles do, flat edge against flat edge, with almost no metal showing between them. That's what gives an Asscher band its crisp, orderly look. Ours are set in half and full eternity designs, many in individual bezels, in white lab-grown diamonds, black and white checkerboards, and lab-created rubies, sapphires and emeralds.
How Square Stones Line Up
Most band shapes leave small gaps. Round stones touch at a single point, and ovals and pears meet at their curved ends, so a little gold shows between each one. Asschers are different. Their straight sides meet the next stone along a full edge, so a row of them reads as one continuous strip, like a line of tiles on a floor. The cropped corners leave tiny diamond-shaped spaces where four corners would otherwise meet, a detail you only notice up close and one that gives the band a fine, rhythmic pattern.
Each Asscher is a square step cut: a series of flat, stepped facets that run around the stone like a set of concentric frames. Look straight down and you see a pattern of nested squares leading toward the center. As the hand moves, light flashes across those steps in broad sheets rather than tiny sparkles, so an Asscher band looks calm and graphic from a distance and full of movement up close.
Square Inside a Square
Many of our Asscher bands set each stone in its own bezel, a thin rim of gold wrapped around all four sides. The bezel repeats the stone's square outline in metal, so every diamond or gemstone appears framed, a square within a square. Along the band, these frames line up into a neat grid that echoes the geometric jewelry of the 1920s and 1930s, when the Asscher shape first became popular.
The bezel is practical, too. It covers the cropped corners, which are the most exposed part of the stone, and leaves a smooth surface with nothing to catch on sweaters or hair. That makes a bezel-set Asscher band one of the most comfortable eternity styles for everyday wear. Our prong-set designs, by contrast, hold each stone at its corners and let more of its sides show, for a lighter, more open look.
Checkerboard Black and White
Set natural black diamonds beside white lab-grown diamonds in a square cut and you get something close to a checkerboard, the black-and-white pattern of a classic Art Deco floor. Our black and white Asscher bands alternate the two in half and full eternity styles, several of them bezel-set so every square sits in its own gold frame. For a quieter look, our solid black diamond bands keep every stone dark, with a smooth, glossy surface that reflects light rather than sparkling. Explore more dark designs in our black diamond rings.
Square Stones in Red, Blue and Green
A square step cut shows color as clean, flat planes, so a lab-created ruby, blue sapphire or emerald in an Asscher band looks rich and even, almost like enamel. Our gemstone Asscher bands come in a single color all the way around, in color alternating with white lab-grown diamonds, and in two-tone designs that split the ring into a white half and a colored half. Every gemstone in these bands is lab-created and labeled that way on its listing. See more in our ruby wedding bands, blue sapphire wedding bands and emerald wedding bands.
All White
Our white Asscher bands use lab-grown diamonds in half eternity and full eternity designs, from slim bezel-set rows to a bold full eternity band with larger stones. An all-white band shows the step-cut flashes most clearly, since nothing breaks up the pattern of nested squares. Natural white diamond Asscher bands can be made on request.
Pairing With Your Engagement Ring
An Asscher band's straight lines suit engagement stones with corners of their own. Beside an emerald cut engagement ring, it repeats the step-cut facets in a square form. Beside a cushion engagement ring, it adds crisp edges to the cushion's soft outline, and beside a round solitaire it brings a geometric contrast to brilliant sparkle. Because Asschers sit flat and even, a straight Asscher band rests closely against most solitaires. Our Asscher cut diamond rings show the shape in other styles, and our guide to Art Deco engagement rings shows how the style developed.
Sizing and Wear
Half eternity bands carry stones across the top of the finger with plain metal at the back. Full eternity bands continue the stones all the way around, so they can't be resized after they're made. We craft each one to your measurement, so it's worth having your finger sized at the end of the day, when it's at its largest. If you plan to wear an Asscher band beside an engagement ring every day, try the two together at the same sizing so the pair feels comfortable as a set, not only each ring alone.
Metals, Diamonds and Certificates
Asscher bands are offered in 10K, 14K or 18K yellow, white or rose gold, and many are also available in 925 sterling silver. Our white lab-grown diamonds are grown by the CVD method. A GSI jewelry certificate accompanies any Asscher band priced over $800, and US shipping is free, with international delivery available.
