Lab-Grown Diamond Engagement Rings for Women
A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond, grown from a diamond seed instead of mined from the ground, and for an engagement ring it opens up choices a mined stone often can't. Our lab-grown centers go well past the 1 carat where our natural stones stop, come in eight shapes and every setting style, and include pink, yellow, blue and green. If you've pictured a bigger stone or a bolder design, this is where to start.
How Our Centers Are Grown
Every lab-grown diamond we use is made by chemical vapor deposition, or CVD. A thin slice of diamond is placed in a sealed chamber with carbon-rich gas, and over several weeks carbon atoms settle onto it in the same tight crystal lattice a mined diamond has. The stone that comes out is then cut and polished like any other diamond.
The result is chemically, physically and optically diamond: the same hardness, the same fire, the same way of catching light. Only lab equipment can tell where a diamond came from, which is why every listing in this collection names it as lab-grown. If you'd like the full story of how diamonds form, in the earth and in the lab, our guide on how diamonds are made covers both.
Past the One-Carat Line
The biggest practical difference in our range is size. Our natural engagement centers are offered at 1 carat, with larger stones sourced on request. Our lab-grown centers are listed up to 3 carats, and larger stones can be grown to order. So if your idea of the ring includes a 1.5, 2 or 3 carat center, lab-grown is how you get there here.
Every lab-grown center of 1 carat and above comes with an IGI grading report, and any ring over $800 also includes a GSI jewelry certificate. Any of these rings can be made in 925 sterling silver or in 10K, 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. For a side-by-side look at the two diamond types, read our guide to lab-grown versus natural diamonds for engagement rings.
Eight Shapes, Every Setting
Lab-grown centers are available in every shape we make. A round gives the classic brilliant sparkle; an oval adds length and looks larger for its weight; a pear pairs a soft curve with a point. A cushion brings vintage softness, an emerald cut calm step-cut flash, and a marquise the longest outline of all. A radiant mixes a rectangle with brilliant fire, and a princess gives a crisp square.
Each shape comes in a range of settings: solitaires, halos, pavé bands, bezels and hidden halos, depending on the shape. Each shape collection explains its own settings in detail, and you can also browse by style across our halo and bezel-set engagement rings.
Designs Made With Lab-Grown Stones
A few of our designs exist only in lab-grown. The three-stone oval sets an oval center between two smaller diamonds, widening the ring across the finger. The toi et moi places two pear diamonds side by side, one for each person. And a mixed-shape ring combines an emerald cut with marquise and round diamonds for contrast between step-cut flash and brilliant sparkle. Designs with several well-matched larger stones are far more practical to make with lab-grown diamonds. Matching two pears for a toi et moi, for instance, means finding stones with the same color, size and outline, which is much easier when the diamonds can be grown and cut to suit each other. The same is true of three-stone rings, where the side stones need to frame the center evenly.
Color in Every Shape
Most of our shapes also come with a colored center: pink, yellow, blue or green. These are lab-grown diamonds colored by treatment after growth, and every listing says so, even where an older product name leaves out the word "lab". They run up to 3 carats listed, with larger to order. Naturally colored diamonds this size are rare enough to sit outside most engagement budgets, so a lab-grown colored center makes the look possible. All four colors are gathered in our colored lab diamond engagement rings.
Inspired by Red-Carpet Rings
Many couples arrive with a famous engagement ring in mind, and the styles behind the most talked-about celebrity rings translate well to lab-grown stones. Large emerald cuts in simple settings have a long old-Hollywood history; our look at Beyoncé's emerald cut engagement ring shows why the shape photographs so well. Big ovals are a recent favorite, explored in our guide to Hailey Bieber's oval ring. Elongated, vintage-style cushions have been in the headlines too, as our piece on Taylor Swift's engagement ring covers.
Two-stone and colored designs show up again and again. Megan Fox's toi et moi ring helped bring the two-stone style back, Selena Gomez's marquise revived interest in that long, pointed shape, and Jennifer Lopez's engagement rings include one of the most famous pink diamonds of recent decades. For a step-by-step take on recreating a celebrity style, see how to get Zendaya's ring look.
Recreating that scale in a mined stone can be out of reach. With lab-grown, a 3 carat emerald cut, a large oval or a colored center becomes a realistic choice, and our custom design team can build a design inspired by a ring you've admired, turning a photo into your own ring. Diagaa isn't affiliated with any of these public figures; our guides simply look at the styles of their rings.
The Band Beside It
A lab-grown center pairs naturally with a lab-grown band, so the sparkle of the small stones matches the center. Straight bands suit most solitaires and bezels, while halos and elongated shapes may want a gently curved band. Explore our lab-grown diamond wedding bands.
