Black Diamond Rings for Women

A black diamond does not sparkle the way a white one does. It has a deep, glossy surface that reflects light like polished stone, and that is exactly why people choose it. Every black diamond we use is a natural diamond that has been color-treated to give it an even black color. Our range is built mostly around bands: eternity and half eternity rings, black and white designs, and multi-stone rings for stacking or wearing alone.

What Is a Black Diamond?

A black diamond is still carbon with a diamond's crystal structure. What makes it black is what is inside: so many dark inclusions, often graphite, that light cannot pass through the stone. Instead of light bouncing around inside and coming back out as sparkle, it reflects off the polished surface. Jewelers call that effect luster.

Natural stones like this are rarely an even, deep black on their own, so the black diamonds used in jewelry, including ours, are color-treated. Treatment turns a dark, patchy stone into a uniform black.

Two practical points follow from all this:

  • Black diamonds look the same from every angle. There is no "fire" to lose if the stone is a little dirty or set low, so they keep their look with very little upkeep.
  • They can be more brittle than white diamonds. The same inclusions that make them black can make them more likely to chip from a hard knock. A protective setting, such as a channel or bezel, helps.

How Black Diamonds Look in Gold

The metal sets the mood of a black diamond ring.

  • White gold gives a sharp, monochrome look, especially when black and white diamonds are set side by side.
  • Yellow gold makes the strongest contrast, with warm metal against a dark stone.
  • Rose gold softens the effect and gives a more romantic look.

What We Make With Black Diamonds

Eternity rings. Most of our black diamond pieces are eternity rings, with black stones running around the band, or alternating with white diamonds. See eternity bands, or half eternity rings if you prefer a plain section underneath.

Black and white designs. Checkerboard patterns, two-tone rows and channel-set bands that mix black and white diamonds. The contrast is the design. In some of these rings the black diamonds are natural and the white diamonds are lab-grown, which is why "lab" appears in some product names. The product page lists which stones are which.

Princess and pear shapes. Square princess-cut black stones set edge to edge, and pear-shaped stones lined up in an eternity band, give a more graphic look than small round stones.

Caring for a Black Diamond Ring

Clean it with warm water, a little mild soap and a soft brush, then dry it with a soft cloth. Because black diamonds are heavily included and color-treated, avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners, and tell any jeweler who repairs or resizes the ring that the black stones are treated, so they can keep heat away from them.
