Heart Shape Diamond Rings for Women

A heart diamond is a pear with a cleft cut into its rounded end, and getting that outline crisp takes more skill than almost any other shape. Our heart rings range from eternity bands with a row of small hearts circling the finger to heart solitaires, halos and pink heart engagement rings, in yellow, white or rose gold.

What Makes a Heart Read as a Heart

Hearts are judged on shape more than on any single grade. Three things matter:

  • Matching lobes. The two rounded tops should be the same size and height. If one is fuller, the heart looks tilted.
  • A clean cleft. The notch between the lobes should be sharp and clearly defined, not shallow or rounded off.
  • A centered point. The tip should sit directly below the cleft, with straight, even sides running down to it.

Most well-proportioned hearts are close to as wide as they are long, with a length-to-width ratio around 0.90 to 1.10. Wider hearts look plump, and longer ones start to look like a pear. Hearts are brilliant cut, typically with around 56 to 59 facets, so they sparkle much like a round, and like a pear they can show a faint bow-tie across the middle.

Why Size Matters More Here

Below about half a carat, a heart's outline gets harder to see. The cleft shrinks and the stone can read as a round or a triangle from a few feet away. For a center stone, 0.50 carat or more keeps the shape clear.

In an eternity band the stones are much smaller, so the setting does the work. A thin metal rim around each heart traces its outline and makes the shape visible even at a small size, and setting the hearts nose to tail in one direction keeps the pattern easy to read across the band.

Heart Eternity and Half Eternity Bands

Most rings in this collection are eternity bands, in total weights from about 1.35 carats to 4.50 carats.

  • Lab-grown diamond, all white, from slim half eternity rings up to a 4.50 carat full band.
  • Black diamond, using natural diamonds that are color-treated, on their own or alternating with white lab-grown diamonds.
  • Lab-created gemstones, in ruby, blue sapphire or emerald, either as a solid band of one color or alternating with lab-grown diamonds.

A full eternity band carries hearts all the way around, which suits a band that won't need resizing. A half eternity ring keeps them across the top, so it's more comfortable next to an engagement ring and easier to size later. Our guide to eternity and half eternity rings explains the trade-offs, and you can also browse heart diamond wedding bands and all our half eternity rings.

For the gemstones in other shapes, see lab-grown ruby rings, sapphire rings and lab-grown emerald rings, and for more black diamonds, our black diamond rings.

Heart Engagement Rings

Heart center stones need three points of protection: a V-shaped prong at the tip and a prong on each lobe. The lobes are the widest part of the stone and the tip is the thinnest, so a missing prong at either is where chips happen.

  • Solitaire. A single heart held by three or five prongs, which keeps the outline uncluttered. See more solitaire engagement rings.
  • Halo. A border of small diamonds traces the heart and sharpens its outline, a good choice for a smaller center stone. Browse halo engagement rings.
  • Pink heart. A lab-grown fancy pink heart center stone. Hearts and pink diamonds have long been paired, and the brilliant faceting spreads the color evenly across the face. More options are in our pink diamond rings.

For a heart in another setting, color or size, ask about a custom design.

Natural, Lab-Grown and Certificates

Natural heart diamonds go up to 1 carat, and one of 0.50 carat or more includes an IGI or GIA report. Lab-grown hearts, including pink, come in larger sizes, and any lab-grown diamond of 1 carat or more includes an IGI report.

The small stones in eternity bands fall below both thresholds, so they aren't individually certified. Instead, any ring priced above $800 includes a jewelry certificate from GSI, an independent lab, covering the finished piece. Compare by origin in natural diamond rings and lab-grown diamond rings.

FAQs

Matching lobes, a sharp cleft and a point centered below it. A ratio near 1.00 gives the classic heart outline, and our heart solitaire rings show it most clearly.

For a center stone, about 0.50 carat. Smaller hearts work well in eternity bands, where a metal rim around each stone defines the shape, as in our heart shaped wedding bands.

No. The rubies, sapphires and emeralds are lab-created, and the black diamonds are natural but color-treated. See more lab-created stones in our lab-grown emerald collection.

Yes. Our pink heart rings use a lab-grown fancy pink diamond. Browse our wider pink diamond collection, or have one designed to order.

A full band looks continuous from every angle but can't easily be resized. A half eternity ring is more comfortable beside an engagement ring. Compare them in our half eternity ring collection.
