Bezel Set Engagement Rings for Women

A bezel setting holds the center diamond with a thin rim of metal instead of prongs. The rim wraps the edge of the stone, so the ring has a smooth, low profile with nothing to snag on knits or hair. This collection covers bezel rings in seven diamond shapes, with natural, lab-grown and fancy color stones, set in 10K, 14K or 18K gold. To compare other settings first, start with all of our women's engagement rings.

What Is a Bezel Set Engagement Ring?

In a bezel setting, a strip of metal runs around the outline of the center diamond and holds it in place. A full bezel circles the whole stone. A partial or half bezel covers only part of the edge and leaves the sides open. Because the metal follows the shape of the diamond, a round stone gets a round rim, an oval an oval one, and so on.

Compared with a prong setting, a bezel hides more of the stone's edge and gives the ring a cleaner, more modern look. Our bezel set engagement rings buying guide covers the setting in more detail, and the guide to prong settings shows how the two differ.

Why Women Choose a Bezel Setting

It protects the stone. The rim covers the edge of the diamond, where chips usually start, so the stone is less exposed to knocks. This matters most for shapes with corners.

It is comfortable. There are no raised prongs, so the ring sits flat and smooth against the hand.

It suits active hands. If you wear gloves, work with your hands or travel a lot, a low setting is easier to live with.

It looks different. A bezel reads as a quieter, more contemporary ring than a prong solitaire, and it works with both modern and vintage-leaning bands.

There are trade-offs. The rim covers part of the diamond's edge, so slightly less light enters from the sides, and the stone can look a little smaller than the same stone in a prong setting. Some bezel designs are also harder to resize, so confirm your size before you order. If you prefer more light and a lighter look, a solitaire engagement ring in a prong setting may suit you better.

Bezel Settings by Diamond Shape

The shape of the center stone changes how the bezel looks.

Round

The rim is a simple circle, which makes round bezel rings the most understated option. Browse round diamond engagement rings for round bezel styles.

Oval

An oval stretches along the finger and looks larger than a round of the same carat weight. The bezel follows the long curve and gives it a smooth outline. See oval cut engagement rings.

Cushion

A cushion has soft corners and a slightly vintage feel. The bezel rounds off the corners further and suits everyday wear. Our cushion cut engagement rings include bezel styles.

Emerald

The emerald cut has long step facets and a clear, glassy look. A bezel keeps its straight lines sharp and covers the corners, which are the most fragile part. Explore emerald cut engagement rings.

Princess

A princess cut is a square brilliant with pointed corners. A bezel covers those points instead of using prongs, which gives the ring a neat, geometric look. See princess cut engagement rings.

Pear and Marquise

Both shapes have a point at one or both ends. A bezel protects the point, which is the part most likely to chip. See pear shape and marquise rings.

Bezel Variations

Solitaire bezel. One diamond on a plain band. The simplest version.

Bezel with a pavé band. Small diamonds run down the band, which adds shine along the finger. Our pavé setting guide explains how those stones are held.

Hidden halo with a bezel. A line of small diamonds sits under the center stone, so the ring looks like a clean bezel from above and sparkles from the side. See hidden halo engagement rings.

Natural, Lab-Grown or Fancy Color

You can choose a bezel ring with any of three diamond types.

Natural diamonds are mined, and many buyers prefer them for their origin. See our natural diamond engagement rings.

Lab-grown diamonds have the same chemical makeup and look as natural ones and usually cost less per carat. Browse lab-grown diamond engagement rings, or read our lab vs natural diamond guide.

Fancy color diamonds come in pink, yellow, blue and green. A bezel frames a colored stone with a plain metal outline, so the color is what you notice. See our colored lab diamond engagement rings.

Choosing the Metal

Our bezel rings are made in solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose.

White gold gives a bright, silver-white rim that makes the diamond look crisp. It is rhodium plated, so it may need replating after some years. Yellow gold adds warmth, and the rim is more visible against the stone. Rose gold has a soft pink tone and is a little tougher because of its copper content.

Because the metal is part of the look of a bezel, the choice shows more than it does on a prong ring. Higher karat means more gold and richer color. Lower karat is harder and costs less. See our 14K vs 18K gold guide and the engagement ring metals guide. If you are considering platinum, our platinum vs gold guide explains how it compares.

Pairing a Bezel Ring With a Wedding Band

A bezel sits low and flat, so most wedding bands sit next to it without trouble.

  • A plain band keeps the look minimal.
  • A curved band follows the outline of the bezel when you want the two rings to touch. See curved wedding bands.
  • A diamond or eternity band adds sparkle that the bezel itself does not provide. See eternity bands.

Start with our women's wedding bands. If you want the two rings to match, read what a bridal set is, or see how to choose a wedding band for your engagement ring.

How to Choose Your Bezel Ring

  1. Shape. It sets the outline of the rim.
  2. Full or partial bezel. Full covers more edge. Partial lets in a little more light.
  3. Plain band, pavé band or hidden halo. Decide how much sparkle you want beyond the center stone.
  4. Diamond type and size. This sets the budget. Our guide to deciding an engagement ring budget can help.
  5. Metal. Match it to the jewelry she already wears.
  6. Ring size. Use our size guide, and read our returns and exchange policy before ordering.

If you want something less expected, bezel rings with an east-west stone or a colored center suit that taste. Our unique engagement rings guide has more ideas.
