Oval Diamond Earrings for Women
An oval diamond stretches its weight into a longer outline, so an oval stud looks bigger on the ear than a round of the same carat. Our oval earrings come as bezel and halo studs, solitaires, huggies and drop hoops, in white or fancy pink, yellow, blue and green diamonds, set in gold or 925 sterling silver.
More Size for the Weight
An oval's length is what sets it apart. A 1 carat oval measures roughly 7.7 × 5.7 mm, while a 1 carat round is about 6.4 mm across, so the oval covers more of the earlobe and reads larger from a distance. That extra length also draws the eye down slightly, which is why ovals suit a rounder face shape especially well.
Like oval rings, oval earrings can show a faint bow-tie, a darker band across the middle of the stone. In a well-cut oval it's subtle and shifts as you move, and because earrings are always moving, it's even less noticeable than on a ring. For a deeper look at the shape, see our oval cut engagement ring buying guide.
Wear Them Upright or Sideways
Each of our oval studs has its post set in the center of the stone, so you can turn it either way: upright, which lengthens, or sideways (east-west), which looks wider and a little more unexpected. You aren't locked into one look when you buy.
Bezel or Halo
Bezel studs. A smooth metal rim wraps the oval and holds it close to the ear. Bezels are snag-free, protect the narrow ends of the stone, and make the oval look slightly wider. Our bezel pairs come at 1 carat in natural diamonds and at 2 carats in lab-grown white, pink, yellow, green and blue.
Halo studs. A ring of small diamonds circles the oval, adding sparkle and making the center look larger still. Our halo pairs are 5 and 6 carats, and that weight counts only the two center ovals, so a 6 carat pair holds a 3 carat oval in each ear, with the halo diamonds added on top. These come in lab-grown white and fancy blue, green and yellow.
Single-stone oval solitaires, without a bezel or halo, sit in between: open prongs let the most light in. More single-stone pairs are in our diamond solitaire earrings.
Fancy Color Ovals
About half our oval earrings use lab-grown fancy color diamonds. The oval's brilliant faceting spreads color evenly, and its long outline shows more of it than a round would. Pink and yellow ovals look especially warm in rose or yellow gold, while blue and green read crisp and cool in white gold or silver. Browse every shade in our colored diamond earrings, or go straight to pink diamond earrings, yellow diamond earrings or blue diamond earrings.
Ovals That Hang
An oval also makes a good drop, since its length follows the line of the swing. Our hanging styles include an oval solitaire huggie, an oval drop hoop and oval dangling hoops. More are in our solitaire drop hoops.
Lab-Grown and Natural
Most of our oval earrings are made with lab-grown diamonds, including every fancy color and halo pair. Lab-grown ovals go up to 3 carats per ear, and any lab-grown diamond of 1 carat or more comes with an IGI report, so the 2 carat bezel and the halo pairs include one for each center stone.
Natural ovals go up to 1 carat per ear, and any natural diamond of 0.50 carat or more comes with an IGI or GIA report. Any pair priced above $800 also comes with a GSI jewelry certificate. Studs by diamond type are in our lab-grown diamond studs and natural diamond studs.
Gold or Sterling Silver
Every oval earring is made in 10K, 14K or 18K yellow, white or rose gold, and in 925 sterling silver. For larger pairs, such as the halo studs, 14K or 18K gold holds the post and setting firmly over years of wear, and screw backs add security.
