Blue Sapphire Rings for Women
Our sapphire rings are made with lab-created blue sapphires, set in eternity and half eternity bands. Some rings use sapphires alone, and others alternate them with lab-grown diamonds. If you want a different design, such as a sapphire engagement ring, we can make it to order.
What Is a Lab-Created Sapphire?
Sapphire is the mineral corundum, a crystal of aluminum oxide. Traces of iron and titanium inside the crystal turn it blue. A lab-created sapphire is grown from the same ingredients under controlled heat, so it has the same chemistry, hardness and optical properties as a mined one. Only its origin is different.
That gives a lab-created stone a few practical advantages for a band set with many small sapphires:
- Even color. The stones in one ring match closely, which matters when a dozen or more sit side by side.
- Fewer visible inclusions. Lab-grown crystals are usually cleaner than mined stones at the same price.
- Lower cost. You get a full row of rich blue for far less than the same row of mined sapphires.
If you want to compare blue stones more broadly, our guide to blue gemstones covers sapphire alongside the alternatives.
Why Sapphire Works in an Everyday Ring
Sapphire scores 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. Among natural gemstones, only diamond is harder. It resists scratches from daily wear, so a sapphire band keeps its polish and color for a long time. That hardness is the reason sapphire is one of the few colored stones that holds up well in an eternity setting, where every stone is exposed around the finger.
Our Sapphire Ring Styles
All-sapphire eternity bands. Blue sapphires set all the way around. See lab-grown blue sapphire wedding rings.
Sapphire and diamond bands. Sapphires alternating with lab-grown diamonds, or a band that is half sapphire and half diamond. The white stones make the blue look deeper. See blue sapphire wedding bands.
Half eternity rings. Sapphires across the top of the band, with plain gold underneath for comfort. See half eternity rings, and our guide to eternity and half eternity rings for the difference.
Bezel-set bands. Each sapphire wrapped in a thin rim of gold, which gives a smooth edge and extra protection.
The stones come in several shapes, including round, oval, pear, heart, emerald and asscher. Round stones give an even line of color. Pear and heart shapes make a more decorative pattern, and emerald and asscher cuts show deep blue through their long, step-cut facets. For more full-circle styles, see all of our eternity bands.
Sapphire Engagement Rings, Made to Order
We do not keep sapphire engagement rings in the collection, but we can make one, or any other sapphire design, as a custom piece. Share the shape, size and gold color you have in mind through our custom design page, or send us a message. We typically reply within 24 hours.
If you are still deciding on the style of a center-stone ring, our solitaire engagement rings show the setting shapes we work with.
Wearing a Sapphire Band With Other Rings
A blue sapphire band next to a diamond engagement ring is a classic pairing, and it is a popular way to add "something blue" for a wedding. Keep the gold color the same as your engagement ring so the two wear evenly. If your engagement ring sits low or has a wide setting, a curved wedding band may close the gap better than a straight one.
Sapphire bands also stack well. A row of blue between two plain or diamond bands adds color without overpowering the set. See stackable rings.
Choosing the Gold for Blue Sapphire
- White gold gives a cool, crisp look and lets the blue stand out most.
- Yellow gold makes a richer, more traditional contrast that suits vintage-style bands.
- Rose gold softens the blue and gives a warmer, less formal look.
Sapphire as a Gift
Sapphire is the birthstone for September and the traditional gemstone for the 45th wedding anniversary, which makes a sapphire band a natural choice for either. Our birthstone gift guide lists every month, and our anniversary rings for women include other milestone styles.
Care
Clean a sapphire band with warm water, a little mild soap and a soft brush, paying attention to the gaps between stones where lotion and dirt collect. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Our care guide has more detail.
How to Choose
- Pick the coverage. Full eternity for color all around, or half eternity for comfort.
- Pick the pattern. All sapphire, or sapphire with diamonds.
- Pick the stone shape. Round for an even line, pear or heart for pattern, emerald or asscher for deep color.
- Pick the gold. Match it to the rings you already wear.
- Check your size. Use our size guide. Full eternity bands are hard to resize, so read the returns and exchange policy before ordering.
