Emerald Cut Diamond Rings for Women
An emerald cut is a rectangle with clipped corners and long, step-like facets that look like a row of mirrors when the stone tilts. This collection includes our emerald cut engagement rings, eternity and half eternity bands in diamonds and lab-created gemstones, and a few open and everyday rings, all in yellow, white or rose gold.
A Step Cut Shows Everything
Most diamond shapes are brilliant cuts, covered in small triangular facets that scatter light into sparkle. An emerald cut is a step cut instead: its facets run in parallel rows down the sides of the stone, like a staircase. That gives it broad, slow flashes of light and a large, open table that you look straight into.
The open table is the whole point of the shape, and it changes how you buy one. Sparkle hides small flaws in a round or oval. An emerald cut has far less sparkle to hide behind, so whatever is inside the stone is easier to see.
Clarity Before Anything Else
In an emerald cut, clarity matters more than in any other common shape. Many buyers choose VS2 or higher. An SI1 stone can still look clean if its inclusions sit near the edges or corners rather than in the middle of the table, which is why a magnified photo or video of the actual stone is worth checking. Our emerald cut engagement ring buying guide shows what to look for.
Color comes second, but it still counts. Without lots of sparkle to mask it, a faint warm tint is more visible here than in a round, especially in a large stone set in white gold. In yellow or rose gold, a slightly lower color grade usually blends in.
Proportions and Size
The classic emerald cut has a length-to-width ratio of about 1.40 to 1.50. Stones closer to 1.30 look shorter and wider, and anything near 1.00 is really an asscher cut, its square relative, which we sell as asscher cut diamond rings. The clipped corners aren't just for looks: they remove the sharp points where a rectangle would be most likely to chip.
A well-cut 1 carat emerald cut measures about 7.0 × 5.0 mm, a 1.5 carat about 7.5 × 5.5 mm, and a 2 carat about 8.5 × 6.3 mm. Its long face makes it look a little larger than a round of the same weight, though an oval or pear of equal weight will still look longer.
Natural or Lab-Grown
Natural emerald cut diamonds in our rings go up to 1 carat. One weighing 0.50 carat or more has an IGI or GIA report, and smaller natural stones carry no documentation. For a center stone above 1 carat, choose lab-grown: lab-grown emerald cuts come in larger sizes, and any of 1 carat or more has an IGI report, while smaller ones aren't individually certified. Every ring priced above $800 also comes with a third-party jewelry certificate from GSI.
Compare both in our natural diamond rings and lab-grown diamond rings.
Engagement Rings
Our emerald cut engagement rings come as a four-prong solitaire, a halo, a hidden halo, a bezel, and pavé designs with small diamonds along the band. Prongs on an emerald cut sit at the four clipped corners, while a bezel wraps the whole outline and suits anyone who works with their hands. See the full range of emerald cut engagement rings.
Emerald Cut Eternity and Half Eternity Rings
Most of the rings in this collection are eternity bands, where emerald cut stones run end to end around the finger. Because each stone is a rectangle, the band reads as a continuous line of light rather than a row of separate sparkles.
They come in several builds:
- Diamond only, in natural or lab-grown diamonds, from slim bands of 3 mm stones up to bold lab-grown bands of around 8 carats total.
- Gemstone only, in lab-created ruby, lab-created blue sapphire or lab-created emerald.
- Alternating, with one lab-created gemstone and one lab-grown diamond in turn.
- Half and half, with diamonds across one half of the band and a lab-created gemstone across the other.
- Black diamond, using natural black diamonds that are color-treated, in some designs alternating with white lab-grown diamonds.
Many of these are bezel set, so each stone sits in its own metal frame and the band stays smooth against the neighboring finger. Half eternity versions have stones only across the top, which makes them easier to resize. A note on names: "emerald cut" describes the shape, not the stone. A lab-created emerald band in this collection is an emerald cut emerald. For green gemstone rings in other shapes, see lab-grown emerald rings. For the red and blue versions, see our ruby rings and sapphire rings.
Open Rings and Everyday Styles
A few designs are made for daily wear rather than a proposal: open rings set with an emerald cut diamond in natural or lab-grown, a natural emerald cut solitaire ring, and a 1.50 carat natural diamond emerald cut wedding ring. More everyday shapes are in our open rings.
